Free $1,000 in API Credits for Startups, Plus a Year of Claude Team

Anthropic announced an expansion of Claude Startups on October 6, 2026, adding support for founders building products on Claude. The package offers eligible companies a year of Claude Team, a one-time $1,000 API credit and partner offers across several software services. It also brings together product access, technical consultations and a founder community. Benefits are available to approved applicants; the announcement does not promise unconditional free access for everyone. Official announcement
Team access and API credits are separate benefits
Eligible companies new to Claude Team can receive up to five Premium seats free for one year. A seat provides access for an individual team member. Existing Team customers do not qualify for this offer. The subscription supports employees using Claude’s tools, while the separate API credit covers usage when integrating Claude into a product. Program FAQ
Approved companies receive a one-time $1,000 Claude API credit, claimed through the Startups page in Claude Console after acceptance. It expires six months after allocation and applies only to the direct Claude API. It cannot be used through AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI or other third-party platforms. Teams therefore need to track the API credit’s expiration separately from the free subscription year. API credit conditions
The credit is not a cash grant or an investment. Anthropic’s credit terms also state that credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred to another account. For a small company, the distinction matters: this support reduces the cost of experiments on a particular service rather than covering general business expenses. Supplemental Credit Terms
Partner offers worth up to $45,000 in total
Claude Startup Stack combines discounts and credits for tools covering sales, design, analytics and software development. The advertised $45,000 is the combined maximum value of different partner offers, not cash paid to each company or a shared balance usable on one service. Actual value depends on eligibility, the services a company needs and each offer’s conditions. Independent providers supply these benefits. Program page, Additional Benefits Addendum
As of October 7, the official page lists three free months of Granola Business for up to 10 seats, six free months of Hex Enterprise, and 25% off the first year of a Gamma Pro annual subscription. Members redeem offers using codes from Claude Console. These examples show that support can extend to meeting, analytics and presentation costs alongside product development. Each provider’s terms apply, and offers can change. Current partner offers, Partner conditions
Who can apply?
Startups founded within the past five years or funded within the past two years can apply. Venture capital funding is not required: bootstrapped and pre-seed companies are also eligible to apply. Applicants need a Claude Console account, a company email matching their website’s domain and a short description of the product they are building. The application is completed in Console through the link on the official program page. Application guidance
Anthropic reviews every application, so applying does not mean instant acceptance. Companies must also comply with Anthropic’s supportability policies. Final eligibility remains Anthropic’s decision; planning a development budget around benefits that have not yet been approved would be premature. Official program terms
What could this change for small teams?
Members can book virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team and access founder events, hackathons and meetups. Technical consultations could help assess integration choices, while events offer opportunities to exchange ideas with founders facing similar product problems. Event space is limited, and technical support is advisory. Announcement, Support conditions
The practical opportunity is to test a product idea with lower initial costs. Team access can support everyday research and development, while API credits could fund experiments with different prompts in a document analysis prototype. Those experiments need to measure answer quality and usage costs, as well as whether a working example can be built. Doing that before the free period and credits end helps establish a more realistic budget for the product’s next stage.
